Tech Edge in the Classroom
This week we looked at YouTube videos from Tech Edge. I selected one about nutrition and learned about three apps I could use in the classroom. These videos seem to be helpful in educating teachers about apps they maybe didn't know existed. I'll address the first two apps in my reviews below, but right now I'll just mention the third app was called Big Fork Little Fork and it's all about cooking with kids. This video was very simple, easy to follow, and informative.
Farm to Plate
Farm to Plate is a very simple app and I like it for that reason. Young students can use it to learn the basic of what they should eat and how much as well as how much they should exercise. You just click on each food group and it tells you the facts about them. Teachers can use this app to help teach the importance of eating right. The app is free. It could be used for all grades but probably best for 1st-5th. It requires iOS 6.0 or later and is compatible with the iPad.
Eat & Move-O-Matic
Eat & Move-O-Matic is another very simple app that shows kids if you eat this you must do this to work it off. This app is honestly kind of interesting for adults too. You just select what food and what exercise and it shows you the calories and time needed for each activity. You can also randomly select each. Teachers can use this app to assist in teaching the importance of physical activity. It's appropriate for all ages. The app is free. It is compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch and retires iOS 4.3 or later.
