Made It Monday #flexibleseating Crates
This week I read a blog post from Heidi Samuelson called Made it Monday about flexible seating in the classroom. I am very interested in different seating options for students in classrooms. I am someone who cannot sit still and am very uncomfortable in regular chairs. I really like that teachers are starting to provide other options for their students. Heidi mentioned that she now uses the exercise balls for her students to sit on. In this post she showed crates that she started to use for her students. They provide extra storage and have a fun cushion on top that students love to choose. She says that she used scrap wood that her dad had, left over paint from her mom, and her mom painted the frogs on the cushions. Very cost effective! She raises some desks for the exercise balls, lowers some for the crates, and raises some all the way up for those who like to stand. Giving students a choice to sit however is most comfortable for them allows them to be able to learn better and enjoy being in class. I really like this tip and will try to provide flexible seating options for my students.
